  • ◆Digits read straight through the wood. No screen, no bezel and no black panel. The face is solid wood grain until the LEDs light it from behind.
  • ◆Three alarms, three brightness levels. Set a wake-up, a reminder and a wind-down independently, and dim the face low enough to leave lit all night.
  • ◆Clap or tap to wake it. Sound control mode keeps the display dark after ten seconds so the bedroom stays properly dark, then lights up on a clap or a touch.
  • ◆USB or battery power. Runs from the included cable, or on three AAA batteries when you would rather keep the nightstand free of cords.

The Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock reads the time straight through the wood. LED digits sit behind a solid wood-grain face, so when the display is off the clock is just a clean cube on the nightstand, and when it wakes the numbers float on the surface with no screen, no bezel and no glare.

Three separate alarms can run at once, each sounding for a full minute, which covers a weekday wake-up, a reminder and a wind-down without resetting anything. Brightness steps through three levels, so it can sit bright enough to read across a room or dim enough to leave on overnight. The face also shows the date and the room temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Sound control mode keeps it dark until you need it. The display sleeps after ten seconds and lights again at a clap or a tap on the top, which keeps a bedroom genuinely dark through the night. It runs from the included USB cable, or on three AAA batteries if you want it somewhere without an outlet.

Four finishes, all with a real matte wood grain: pale oak, warm walnut, soft chalk and deep charcoal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only if you want it to. In always-on mode it stays lit at whichever of the three brightness levels you choose. In sound control mode it goes dark after ten seconds and lights up again when you clap or tap the top, so the room stays fully dark while you sleep.

Yes. Level three is the weakest setting and reads as a soft glow rather than a lit screen. If you are sensitive to light at night, sound control mode turns the face off entirely between glances.

Three, and they run independently. Each one sounds for a full minute. There is also a weekday setting so an alarm can skip weekends.

No. The USB cable is included and is the recommended power source, but it also runs on three AAA batteries if you would rather keep the nightstand cable free. Batteries are not included.

It has a matte, low-sheen wood-grain surface with a fine straight figure, closer to a soft-touch finish than a glossy one. The edges are crisp with lightly softened corners.

Yes. A single button press switches between Fahrenheit and Celsius, and the clock also toggles between 12 and 24 hour time.

Customer photo review of Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Warm amber numbers on the darker wood look lovely at night. I have it on the dimmest setting and it is bright enough to check the time without lighting the whole room.

Unlit it is just a clean wooden cube, which is what sold me. Grain looks natural rather than printed on at a glance, and the edges are sharp and square with no rough spots.

Solid little thing, heavier in the hand than I expected which makes it feel better made. Took a minute to figure out the setting sequence but the instructions do cover it.

Smaller than I pictured, which turned out to be the point. It takes up almost nothing and the numbers are still easy to read from across the room. Tap to wake works exactly as described. Worth knowing the USB plug head is not in the box, just the cable.

The pale oak is genuinely pale, closer to blonde than yellow. Really pleased with how it looks lit and unlit.

Exactly as shown. The finish is matte with a fine grain and the corners are crisp. Arrived quicker than I expected too.

Holding it gives you the best sense of the size. It sits in one hand comfortably. I wanted something that would not dominate the surface and this is exactly right.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

The charcoal is a proper deep grey with the grain still showing through, not a flat painted black. Looks far more expensive than it was.

Nice touch that it cycles to the room temperature as well. I switched it to Fahrenheit in a couple of button presses. Only small gripe is the buttons are on the underside so you have to tip it up to set anything.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Customer photo review of Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

The digits really do sit right on the wood. There is no screen edge, no black panel, nothing to give it away when the display is off. It just reads as a small wooden block until it lights up.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Runs happily on the USB cable and I tested the battery mode too, which works fine if you want it somewhere without a socket. Three AAA batteries, not included, but useful to know it is an option.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Three alarms is the feature I did not know I needed. One for waking, one for leaving the house.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

What sold me was that it does not look like a gadget. When the display is off it is just a wooden cube sitting there, and it suits a room where everything else is wood and linen. The fact that it also does temperature and three alarms is a bonus.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Bought this as a gift and ended up ordering a second for myself. It photographs well but it is better in person because you can see the grain properly. The recipient thought it was a designer piece.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

I have been through three bedside clocks trying to find one that is not ugly and not blindingly bright. This is the first one I have kept. The lowest brightness is genuinely low, and being able to have the display off entirely until I tap it means I actually sleep properly now.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Good honest product. Does the three things I wanted, looks good doing them, and did not cost much. No notes beyond that.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Feels considerably more premium than the price suggests. The corners are square and clean, the finish is even on every face, and there is a bit of weight to it so it does not slide around.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

I ordered this for a guest room and liked it enough that I bought a second for our own. It is unobtrusive, guests can work out how to use it without instructions, and it looks intentional on a bedside table rather than like a leftover gadget. The brightness settings mean nobody complains about it either.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Really happy with it overall. The wood finish is matte and looks natural, the digits are crisp, and it was straightforward to set. If I were being picky the alarm tone is a fairly plain beep rather than anything gentle, but it certainly wakes you.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

I set one alarm for the weekday wake-up, one as a reminder to start winding down at night, and left the third off. Being able to run them independently without resetting anything each day is the thing I appreciate most.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Shipping was faster than the estimate and it was well protected in transit. Beyond that, the product is exactly what the photos suggest. Small, square, clean, with the numbers glowing through the wood. If you have been looking at these and wondering whether the effect is as good in real life as it looks online, it is.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Replaced a plastic alarm clock that had been irritating me for years. The difference is not just the look, it is that this one is silent and dimmable, so it stops being a presence in the room at night. The tap to wake means I get the time when I want it and darkness the rest of the time. Should have done this ages ago.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Ordered the pale oak and it matches an oak bedframe almost exactly. The numbers glow a warm amber on this finish rather than a cold white, which makes a real difference at two in the morning.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

I bought it primarily because it looks good, and I assumed I would tolerate the functionality. In practice the functionality is the better half. Temperature, date, twelve or twenty four hour, three alarms, snooze, three brightness levels and sound activation is a lot to pack into something this small, and none of it feels bolted on or fiddly once you have read the sequence once.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Attractive clock and the display is clear at every brightness. Mine took a bit of fiddling to get set up because the instructions are quite terse. Fine once it was sorted.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Bought the walnut and the pale oak at the same time to compare, and honestly both are lovely for different rooms. The walnut is deep and warm with the amber digits and suits a darker space. The oak is much lighter and brighter and works better in a room with a lot of white. Kept both in the end rather than returning one.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Very good, with one honest caveat. The wood grain is a finish rather than solid timber, which is obvious if you look closely at the corners. That said, for a cube this small a solid wood version would cost several times as much and would probably not let the LEDs through as cleanly. Knowing that, I still think it is excellent value and it looks great from any normal distance.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

The temperature readout has been surprisingly useful for working out whether the heating needs adjusting. Small feature, but I check it more than I thought I would.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Reads clearly from the other side of the room even on the middle setting.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Really well judged product. The size is the thing people underestimate from the photos, so it is worth saying clearly that it is small and that is a good thing. It sits at the back of a surface, out of the way, and you only notice it when you need the time. The build feels solid and the display quality is genuinely nice to look at.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

I have it on a desk rather than beside a bed and it is ideal there too. Small enough not to crowd anything, and glancing at the time does not mean picking up a phone and getting distracted.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Simple, quiet, and it looks good switched off. That was the whole brief.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Three separate alarms turned out to be the feature I use most. One wakes me, one goes off when I need to actually leave, and the third is a wind down reminder in the evening. Each sounds for a full minute so there is no chance of sleeping through, and you can set the weekday option so they skip the weekend. For the price it does more than clocks costing three or four times as much.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

The clock itself is excellent and I would buy it again. The wood grain finish is matte and convincing, the digits are sharp, and the dimming range is wide enough to suit both a bright room and a pitch dark one. My only real criticism is that all the buttons are on the base, so any adjustment means lifting it and turning it over. Once it is set you rarely need to, but it is a slightly awkward first five minutes.

Nocturne Cube Alarm Clock

Ordered this slightly sceptical about the sound activation, because that feature is usually a gimmick. It is not. In sound control mode the face is completely dark after ten seconds, and a single tap on the top brings up the time for a few seconds before it goes dark again. My bedroom is now genuinely dark at night for the first time in years, which I did not expect a clock to be responsible for.
